Allowing a child to sit on an air filled disc has several key benefits; supports development of posture control, which can improve breathing, and therefore, concentration. The air disc provides purposeful move, active seating in a defined area just long enough to complete a task. Additionally, allowing a child to sit-n-wiggle on an air disc, standup, sit back on the air disc as needed while working contributes to vestibular development; balance, equilibrium, muscle, tone, maintaining a stable visual field, and bilateral coordination. The use of an air disc must be taught; a child can learn that it’s OK to move and wiggle, but when working on a task active seating within a specified area is required to support task completion. Note: if a child is still challenged by their body’s need to move, utilize VM as an extra effort tom teach the skill of wiggling in a defined space for task completion.
